<![CDATA[M.B.STONOR STUDIOS - Kangaroo Island]]>Sat, 19 May 2012 00:38:49 -0800Weebly<![CDATA[spring?]]>Fri, 19 Aug 2011 17:37:03 -0800http://www.mbstonorstudios.com/2/post/2011/08/spring.htmlWell the weather is warming up, the days are getting a little longer and the bush is ablaze with flowers, I think spring is just about here, this is a wonderful time on the Island there are so many wildflowers here that I couldn't hope to show them all, the colour and form of the many flowers is a constant inspiration, I will just post a few here so you can see what I mean.

muntries, the flowers are followed by edible fruit in late summer

I could sit here and do this all day and still not show you the wonderful diversity that is here, you can see why so much of my work has rich colours and "interesting" forms with such inspiration around me what else could I do.

The seasons have turned, the rains have come and we are heading into our winter, which is our wet season, about a month early this year we are usually still brown and dry at this time of the year but I have already had 170mm of rain and for an area with a mean annual average of 500mm that's not bad. It's a great season for walking, the bush is waking up, things are begining to grow and flower, the correa is starting to flower, several forms of it grow close to my place

this is the lovely pink/green form and is flowering all through the mallee

this lovely green form of reflexa had a very interesting bug on it, now I wonder how that would look made in glass?

The mallee sheds its bark in late summer and with the winter rains the fresh bark on the trunks takes on many different colours, I love this time of year

and this amazing caterpillar was so busy munching on the fresh shoots of wallaby grass that it didn't mind me crawling around taking its picture

and when you are crawling around on the ground the kangaroos think you must have found something good to eat and come over to check you out. This Island is growing again all the life is surging back up into the tips of the plants, another year is beginning, this is such an inspiring time of year I can feel new work swirling about in my head, I only hope I can do it justice.

There is always something new and interesting on this Island, like this spider I found in my veggie garden,

or this urchin found on the beach. The Island is a constant source of inspiration for my work, everywhere you look there is something quite amazing.
